Seed Global Health

Transforming “What If”
Into “What Is”

_SECTOR: PUBLIC HEALTH

Founded in 2012, Seed Global Health is a nonprofit global health organization that supports medical training and health workforce development in Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zambia.

Beginning in 2019, Emergence worked closely with Seed to reposition the organization and refresh its brand, visual identity, and messaging. A critical part of this work was reimagining its website, promotional materials, thought leadership strategy, and public relations. Across all of this work, we told a singular story that continues to resonate deeply with stakeholders, including prospective US-based educators, in-country medical professionals,  funders, policymakers, and more.

_THE CHALLENGE

The history of global public health is often mired with failures due to well-intentioned quick fixes.

There is also a fundamental misunderstanding of how to capture measurements of success or how communities are actually benefiting from new policies or practices.

_SEARCHING FOR THE SIGNAL

Through interviews, a survey, and extensive landscape research, we arrived at an overarching strategy of a social justice lens to communicate Seed Global Health’s dedication to providing high-quality medical education in underserved communities throughout Africa.

We elevated the urgent need for medical professionals to adhere to a new code of ethics and unite the medical profession. While competing demands, cultural differences, and systemic barriers persist, key stakeholders’ passion remains the same.

_EMERGENCE

We launched Seed’s new distinct branding with a refreshed website, updated messaging, and a comprehensive brand book.

Given the diverse audiences and geographies for Seed’s work, we worked with local translators across Africa to ensure all communications would be understood by local communities.

_ EVOLUTION

Shortly after the brand launch, the COVID pandemic sparked new discussions about decolonizing global health, and Seed became a vocal advocate for transforming the field.

Seed also took on the role of consulting with African health leaders on health workforce issues. By developing a brand narrative that reflects Seed’s values and expertise, we have helped them reach a wide global audience.
