Nature Crime Alliance

People. Planet. Justice.

_SECTOR: ENVIRONMENT

The Meridian Institute, World Resources Institute, and Food and Land Use Coalition approached Emergence to launch a new initiative to better address nature crime, which includes criminal forms of logging, mining, fishing, wildlife trade, and land conversion.

Emergence set out to tackle the challenge of defining nature crime and understanding the political landscape around it. We then created the name and branding of the alliance, including its visual identity, messaging framework, website, and promotional materials.

_THE CHALLENGE

Nature crime, which includes criminal forms of logging, mining, fishing, wildlife trade, and land conversion, is a devastating yet often overlooked environmental challenge. The Meridian Institute, World Resources Institute, and Food and Land Use Coalition sought to launch a new initiative that could convene diverse stakeholders to better address these crimes.

_SEARCHING FOR THE SIGNAL

Our landscape analysis and expert interviews highlighted that nature crime frequently converges with more well-known scourges like terrorism, drug trafficking, and financial crime. As a result, it was critical to depict nature crimes not simply in terms of environmental destruction.

_EMERGENCE

We developed name and brand of the alliance, establishing it with a strong visual identity, messaging framework, website, and other materials. From there, we developed a wide range of collateral to support the interim secretariat in pursuing high-value partnerships across sectors.

_EVOLUTION

Through provocative language and visuals, we highlighted the exploitation that fuels nature crime around the world. Further, we illustrated that the complexity of nature crime networks must be addressed through coordinated, collaborative action.

The brand will be further publicized at key events featuring decision makers from international agencies, law enforcement, national governments, environmental advocacy, and other related sectors.
